The first true wristwatch (that is, one designed from its origins to be worn on the wrist) was commissioned from the Breguet workshops by the Queen of Naples on 8 June 1810. The archives attest to the fact that this was a piece of unprecedented elegance, unique of its kind. Though it was to remain a one-off, the first wristwatch nonetheless deserves a place among the most distinguished of Breguet’s many innovations.
