Dionysos
Dionysos is commonly depicted as a bearded, draped figure throughout the Archaic period. This statue type seems to disappear around the 5th century BC, only to reappear in the 4th century, notably around 360 BC in the work of Kephisodotos (Praxiteles's father and teacher). However, this Dionysos bears some resemblance to the Mantinean relief, which could make it an original work by Praxiteles himself. Pliny, Pausanias, and Kallistratos all describe figures of Dionysos by Praxiteles. The original sculpture would seem to date from the last third of the 4th century BC.
