Sculptor Guillaume Coustou had a large studio across the way from the Louvre’s Colonnade and left a superbly detailed notebook of work he had accomplished, with a view to payment. At the top of the page shown here we see half the large pediment still visible today, although the royal coat of arms in the middle was defaced during the Revolution and replaced with the Gallic Rooster.
